Anatomy of a Mediation

By Frederic J. Siegel, Managing Partner and Judge Thomas D. Colin (Ret)

Divorce mediation allows couples to select their mediator, tell their stories and incur fewer expenses than going to court.  In a recent edition of the Connecticut Law Tribune, we outlined how couples work with a mediator who is either an experienced matrimonial attorney or a retired family judge to reduce stress and come to an equitable divorce settlement.  We show how the process can be a viable alternative to litigation, allowing the parties to draft a comprehensive document that addresses all their needs. A successful mediation ends the litigation and any appeal and allows the parties to move on with their lives.

Siegel, a mediator with over four decades of experience or SCK Partner Judge Thomas D. Colin (Ret), the head of our mediation/arbitration department and a retired family court judge.
